falling apart

I was standing at the sink washing dishes when something hit me hard in the back and then shattered on the floor. It was the globe from the kitchen light. There was glass everywhere, but I somehow managed to avoid stepping on any (I was barefoot) and got it all cleaned up. And I’m very thankful it didn’t hit me in the head. That thing was heavy!

I wonder how long it’ll take the maintenance people to get me a new one. It took them 8 months to get me a new bathroom door and about 7 to fix my back screen door. They just stay on the ball, I tell ya! And they do such great work! My bathroom door was up a whole month before it fell off it’s hinges. Yeah, that was just the highlight of my day Monday. I’ll put in a work order when I go pay my rent tomorrow, but I’ll probably just end up fixing the door myself. It’ll get done sooner that way.

Possible inclement weather

So they say it’s going to snow, and we should get from 2 to 5 inches. I’ll believe it when I see it. Obviously someone believes it, because they’ve already called off school for Tomorrow and Friday. I’ll bet someone is going to be feeling pretty stupid in the morning when there’s no snow to be seen. I guess it’s a good thing I’m working second shift tomorrow and I’m off Friday, or I’d just be screwed. Babysitters are really hard to find these days.

Happiness is…

A new washer and dryer. Seriously. I never realized how great these things are until I didn’t have them. I’ve been stuck either going to my dad’s or to the laundromat to wash clothes for the entire 9 months we’ve lived here. Today I was finally able to buy my very first washer and dryer, and I’ve been a clothes washing fool all evening.

I even called my dad to share my excitement. I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m crazy now, if he didn’t already. I don’t care, though. I can wash clothes in my own home with something that I bought with my own money. I’m all independent and stuff. That’s a great feeling.

These clothes aren’t going to fold themselves.

And the trash isn’t going to take itself out. And, well, you get the picture.

I have lost my motivation. There is so much to do before I go to work today, but all I really want to do is sit here in front of my computer.  I can’t stand myself when I get like this. For me, staying motivated is a lot harder than staying on a diet.

Speaking of dieting – I lost 45 lbs. last year! Only 5 more pounds to go and I’ll be back to my pre-Arien weight.  Yeah, I’m still fat, but I look a little less like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man now.

Scrub-a-dub

“Well, it looks like you have an infestation”

That’s what the exterminator lady told me today. She’s been here twice a month every month since I’ve lived here and she just now noticed? Of course, she’s usually in and out in about 5 seconds, but today she actually did something. Finally. I’ve had about all the bugs I can handle for one lifetime. That’s just apartment life, I guess , but boy does it suck!

The maintenance lady that came with her today told me that I can have my house fogged for free once a month. All I have to do is put in a work order, and that’s exactly what I did. They should do it either Friday or one day next week. While I was putting in that work order, I finally got them to come fix my back screen door. It’s not flapping in the wind anymore! And, I made a complaint about the broken-down pickup that’s been sitting here for 3 months. If it’s not moved by Friday it’ll be towed. Maybe that’ll help a little bit with the crappy parking situation here, and I won’t have to park around back and walk a mile to my house. That just pisses me off.

As a result of the spraying and the dead bug grossness, I went into super house cleaning mode. I have scrubbed nearly every inch of this place with bleach today, and I plan on finishing the rest tomorrow before work (2nd shift tomorrow. I hate second shift.). I’m planning to rearrange my bedroom within the next couple of days, too. I’m just bored with the way it is now. So, I’d say I’m doing really well with my keeping my house cleaner resolution, and that makes me happy.

The strangest birthday party ever

Yesterday was Arien’s birthday, and last weekend Wayne (the girls’ dad) asked if we were having a party for her. I told him some people were going to come over and eat cake and ice cream with us, and that he could come if he wanted to. I meant he could come. Alone. No girlfriend or her kid. Well, last night he showed up with both of them. WTF? Why would anyone bring their new girlfriend to their ex’s house when everyone knows they hate each other? I swear, I will never understand him.

I was a good girl, though. I was nice, and even offered to fix her some cake. She didn’t want any, though. Maybe she was afraid I would spit in it or something. It was one weird evening. It’s still hard for me to see him, especially when she’s there too. Does it ever get any easier?

Arien, the birthday girl!

This has been the display cake at Wal-Mart for a while, and Arien wanted one every time we would go in. She was so happy that it was her birthday so that she could finally get one. She loves mermaids!

Happy 2007 and such

The first thing I heard in the new year was my brother throwing up. I hope that’s not a sign of things to come. He partied a little too hard last night, obviously. I, on the other hand, didn’t even stay up to ring in the new year. I was asleep by 10:30. I lead such an exciting life.

I’m not usually one for resolutions, but this year I have a couple. For starters, I’m going to keep my house a little more clean. I’m not doing so well with that one so far. I took the Christmas tree down earlier, got everything in the appropriate boxes, but it’s all still sitting in the living room floor. I just have to finish cleaning out the closet I’m going to put it all in. I’m going to do that before I go to bed. Then before work tomorrow I’ll clean the kitchen and bathroom. This house is always a mess, and it’s time I did something about it.

A few other things on my list are to finish some projects I’ve been working on, try to save some money, and actually get a life outside of work and home. I might even try to blog a little more often than every three months. We’ll see.
