11 minutes

That’s how long I have before my laptop battery dies.

The electricity is off in the whole area. They had to do substation maintenance, and we had to close the store an hour early. We still didn’t get out of there before they turned it off. Ugh. The opening manager is going to be mad, but I don’t really give a damn. Some people came through right before we closed and had 3 different orders, all about $25 each. Who needs $75 worth of food from Taco Bell at midnight? Obviously these people do. They come through the same time every Saturday without fail. And then they’re back the next morning saying we left a bunch of stuff out and trying to get free food.

Okay, back to the point. Those huge orders caused us to be behind in our closing. Well, not really behind. We needed to be out of there at least 10 minutes early, that just didn’t happen. But hey, we did the best we could.

I started this post during the blackout last night, and was just too tired to finish by the time the lights came back on. They were supposed to be on by 3 AM, and they were everywhere I could see except for the hill I live on. We didn’t get electricity here until closer to 5 AM. I should’ve just went to bed, but it was too damn hot in here to sleep. I’m glad it’s over.

I can just here what the opening manager is going to say to me when I go in tonight. I forgot to turn off the breakers for the lights like we do every night. Hey, they were already off, and I didn’t think about it. I was trying to hurry up and get us out of there. We’re supposed to scrub on Saturday nights, and we didn’t get much of that done at all. Oh well. I guess it really wasn’t my fault, but I still feel badly about it. Kinda embarrassing, really.

Stupid Weather

It’s 27 degrees outside, and not much warmer inside. My house has concrete and tile floors, and whoever put the new windows in a couple of years ago did a shitty job of sealing them, and if it’s cold outside, it’s cold in here. It was snowing when Gracie got on the bus this morning, but it was sixty degrees yesterday. I wish Mother Nature would just make up her freaking mind.

I wish I could just stay on the couch all day, curled up under a blanket and knitting or reading. I don’t want to go outside, but I have things to do. I have books that need to go back to the library. I just checked them out yesterday, but I finished mine early this morning, and read the three Arien picked out to her last night. Then it’s off to the doctor for Arien’s 4-year-old shots. Oh joy. At least I’ll be able to get in some quality knitting time while we’re in the waiting room.

Things to do today

1. Clean the kitchen. Done
2. Clean the bathroom. Done
3. Go through all the crap in my bedroom and get rid of most of it.  Done! Yay!
4. Find cables to old computer.
5. Fix that computer so I can sell it to my cousins.
6. Cast on for the mate to my German Flag sock.
7. Wash clothes. Started  Done
8. Do my sister’s taxes.

Update 2-7-07 8:30 AM: Wow. It took nearly all day to clean and rearrange my room, but I did it. I feel so much better now. I ended up getting more done than I thought I would, but I never did get any knitting time. I meant to post this update last night, but my internet was down and I couldn’t get a hold of customer service, so I just went to bed.

Yep, I was wrong

Front porch view

This is the view from my front porch at about 9 AM. When I looked out at 4:00, everything was covered in white, but by the time we got up at 8:00, it had started raining and some of it had melted. The girls were so excited, but we had to wait until the rain stopped before they could go out. I’m so glad that it did because if I heard “Can we go out now?” one more time, I think I would’ve freaked out a bit.

Possible inclement weather

So they say it’s going to snow, and we should get from 2 to 5 inches. I’ll believe it when I see it. Obviously someone believes it, because they’ve already called off school for Tomorrow and Friday. I’ll bet someone is going to be feeling pretty stupid in the morning when there’s no snow to be seen. I guess it’s a good thing I’m working second shift tomorrow and I’m off Friday, or I’d just be screwed. Babysitters are really hard to find these days.

Happiness is…

A new washer and dryer. Seriously. I never realized how great these things are until I didn’t have them. I’ve been stuck either going to my dad’s or to the laundromat to wash clothes for the entire 9 months we’ve lived here. Today I was finally able to buy my very first washer and dryer, and I’ve been a clothes washing fool all evening.

I even called my dad to share my excitement. I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m crazy now, if he didn’t already. I don’t care, though. I can wash clothes in my own home with something that I bought with my own money. I’m all independent and stuff. That’s a great feeling.

These clothes aren’t going to fold themselves.

And the trash isn’t going to take itself out. And, well, you get the picture.

I have lost my motivation. There is so much to do before I go to work today, but all I really want to do is sit here in front of my computer.  I can’t stand myself when I get like this. For me, staying motivated is a lot harder than staying on a diet.

Speaking of dieting – I lost 45 lbs. last year! Only 5 more pounds to go and I’ll be back to my pre-Arien weight.  Yeah, I’m still fat, but I look a little less like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man now.
